WASHINGTON | Tue Oct 22, 2013 4:00pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Internal Revenue Service said on Tuesday that the start of the 2014 tax filing season would be delayed one to two weeks next year as a result of the 16-day government shutdown this month.

The original tax filing start was scheduled for January 21 but with a one- to two-week delay, the IRS will start accepting and processing 2013 individual tax returns no earlier than January 28 and no later than February 4, the agency said in a release.
