WASHINGTON | Wed Jan 2, 2013 12:30pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of FBI background checks for U.S. gun purchases set a record in December, as the Connecticut school massacre prompted renewed talk of limits on firearms, according to new FBI data.

The FBI said it recorded 2.8 million background checks during the month, surpassing the record set in November of 2 million checks. The number was up 49 percent over December 2011, when the FBI performed a then-record 1.9 million checks.

No surprise there. Every time a gun nut goes nuts, the gun nuts go nuts. We're the only country that does this, and we're the only country that shoots 32,000 of its own people every year and then get surprised by it. There is no solution now that there are 300 million guns loose in a population which clearly can not handle them. Gun control will not work now. Given the advanced state of decay here, birth control works better.

With over 2 million more guns out there, we should be REALLY safe now.
