Credit: Reuters/John Gress CHICAGO | Wed Jul 31, 2013 6:26pm EDT CHICAGO (Reuters) - An Illinois judge on Wednesday allowed Chicago to proceed with the closing of 50 public schools, denying a request by the teachers' union to keep ten of those schools open. A lawsuit filed by the Chicago Teachers' Union argued that the school district had ignored the recommendations of independent officials questioning ten of the proposed closings. "This unfortunate ruling ... does an injustice to the parents of these students," said Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis in a statement.
