Five dead in Texas shooting spree, suspect captured: report Oct 29th 2013, 13:10 Share this Email Print Reprints Tue Oct 29, 2013 9:10am EDT (Reuters) - Police arrested a 36-year-old man hiding in the woods after a shooting spree that killed five people around the small Texas community of Terrell, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. Charles Everett Brownlow, Jr., 36, was captured early Tuesday after a door-to-door manhunt in Terrell, about 30 miles east of Dallas, the Dallas Morning News said. His arrest capped a series of grisly discoveries as the killings unfolded in four locations in the town of 16,000 people. Police found the body of a woman who had been shot in the head at one home on Monday afternoon. A short time later, firefighters spotted flames coming from Brownlow's home a few blocks away and found another woman dead of gunshot wounds. Late Monday night, a man and woman were found shot to death at another home, where a 3-year-old boy was discovered alive in his bed, the newspaper said. The fifth body, a man, was found at a convenience store and police chased a man fleeing in a car. At a dead end, the driver ran into the woods and was found hiding in a creek about a mile from the store, the newspaper reported. "We're all in a state of shock. You have a tendency to think, 'How can that happen here?'" the newspaper quoted Terrell Police Chief Jody Lay as saying. Police did not give a motive for the shootings or identify the victims. A Terrell Police spokesman could not be reached for comment. The shooting spree occurred in Kaufman County, Texas, where District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia Woodward McLelland, as well as Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse were killed earlier this year.
